WHAT IS EMPLOYEE APPRAISAL?

Employee appraisal /ocena pracownicza/, also known as performance appraisal, is the process of evaluating an employee’s performance, achievements, and overall contribution to an organization. It is usually conducted by a supervisor or manager and involves assessing various aspects of an employee’s work, such as their productivity, skills, behavior, and goals. The purpose of employee appraisal is to provide feedback, identify areas for improvement, recognize accomplishments, and determine employee development and compensation decisions. It can be done through formal review meetings, self-assessment, peer evaluations, and other assessment methodsread more.

So the words appraisal, evaluation and assessment have similar meaning.

VOCABULARY FOR APPRAISAL

During evaluation there are typical questions that an appraisee /oceniany pracownik/ may hear:

Do you think you meet or exceed the correct standards?

Do you have the skills and knowledge to achieve duties or goals?

How do you assess the quality of your work?

Do you think you have met the objectives that were set for you?

Is there room for improvement?

What are your main strenghts and weaknesses?

What training courses would you benefit most?

Are you happy with your career progression?

Do you receive encouragement when you need it?

How do you feel about your workload?

Are your job duties clearly defined?

Does your manager show you fair treatment at all times?

Does your manager give praise for work well done?

How do you feel abobout the pay and benefits you are receiving?

Do you have any comments you would like to make?

A lot of employees feel appraisal is an unnecessary or even stupid activity mainly due to the fact that it is conducted inconsistently, wrong questions are asked and appraisees don’t get feedback afterwards. Do you feel the same?
