The STAR method
is a structured way to answer job interview questions, especially behavioral ones (questions that ask about past experiences). STAR stands for:
🔹 Situation – Describe the context or background of the situation.
🔹 Task – Explain the challenge or responsibility you faced.
🔹 Action – Describe the steps you took to address the situation.
🔹 Result – Share the outcome of your actions, ideally with measurable success.
Example Question: „Tell me about a time you worked under pressure.”
STAR Answer:
- Situation: In my previous job as a customer service representative, we had a system outage during peak hours.
- Task: My responsibility was to handle frustrated customers while waiting for the technical team to fix the issue.
- Action: I calmly informed customers about the situation, provided alternative solutions, and reassured them that we were working on it.
- Result: Despite the issue, customer complaints were reduced by 30% compared to previous incidents, and my manager praised my crisis management skills.
